Description Of Item: Folio size ledger book with black board covers and ruled pages with an original label on the front cover inscribed in hand writing 'Australian College of Optometry. Minute Book from April 22nd 1941. The spine has a modern laser printed label reading 'Council 1940 to 1946.' It includes the minutes of the First General Meeting of the College held on Tuesday April 22nd 1941 and the minutes of subsequent Annual Meetings April 4th 1942, April 12 1943, April 26 1944 and July 24 1945. The minutes and reports are pasted to the pages of the book and are typewritten, or cuttings of reports published in the Australian Journal of Optometry or in a few cases handwritten. Tipped in is a reprint of a report of the first General meeting of April 22 1941 published in Aust J Optom May 30 1941 210-23 (on display Schultz foyer 4.5.2015)
Historical Significance: The book include the reports of the President, Treasurer and of other officers of the College and the audited accounts as well as the minutes of the AGMs for the period 1940 to 1945. It does not include MInutes of Council (see Cat No 4 for Council Minutes). The record for the 1945 meeting does not indicate the year but LOSc diplomas were presented and since the students completed their course in 1944 their diplomas would have been presented in 1945. This record of the 1945 meeting is entirely a cutting of a printed report from the Australian Journal of Optometry and is signed as 'Confirmed. CW Kett Latimer' and the signatures are dated August 30 1946 in Latimers handwriting. Kett was First Vice President and Chairman of Council in 1946. HS Latimer held no office in 1946 but was a Councillor 1940 to May 8 1944 and Treasurer to August 13 1945. The Minutes of the 1946 AGM are to be found in the Minute book of Council 1940 to 1947 (Cat No 4). AGM Minutes are bound with the Minutes of Council from 1946.
