Contact lens routine and practice

Historical Significance: This is an early book on contact lens practice before prescribing contact lenses became an integral part of routine optometric practice. Bier was one of the early contact lens pioneers, but not the first: Dickinson and Hall had written Introduction to the prescribing and fitting of contact lenses in 1946 (Cat No 176) and Obrig had written his book Contact Lenses in 1942.(Cat No 95). The book by Bier brought together the substance of many articles and lectures by the author and it draws on his experience in contact lens practice. He also was a pioneer in low vision See his book Correction of sub-normal vision Cat No 474. In the contact lens field Bier produced fenestrated haptic lenses to combat veiling in 1944, at the same time as did Josef Dallos (1905-1979), but Bier was awarded the patent the following year. The fenestration (a small hole) worked by trapping a small bubble of air between the lens and the cornea. This is an early text book on contact lenses.
