Geoffrey Thomas Willoughby Cashell, (1906 - 1994) was consultant ophthalmic surgeon to Reading and district hospitals and consultant and adviser in ophthalmology to Oxford Regional Hospital Board 1948-70 and district clinical tutor 1970-5. He was educated at Westminster School, London, and King's College Hospital (MRCS, LRCP 1930; MB, BS 1933), became honorary ophthalmic surgeon to Reading and districthospitals 1933; founded Reading School of Orthoptics 1935.Became knight of Order of StJohn of Jerusalem 1970; awarded honorary fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Ophthalmologists and honorary DSc by Reading University 1976. Master of Oxford ophthalmological congress 1967-8 and of Worshipful Society of Apothecaries 1970. Chaired British Orthoptic Board and medical advisory committees of Oxford Regional Hospital Board and Reading and District Hospital Management Committee, was treasurer of Faculty of Ophthalmologists, and was member of council of Ophthalmic Society of the United Kingdom.
