Historical Significance: Dr Aust was a Swiss ophthalmologist specialising in orthoptics and pleoptics. See also his book Pleoptik und Orthoptik by Wolfram Aust, M.D., Marburg, Germany. Basel, Switzerland, and New York, 1966. He was also a keen artist and retired to be a professional painter. The picture shows one of his paintings taken from the internet site of an art gallery. Wolfram Aust MD worked at the University Eye Clinic in Marburg. The book is of interest because of its photographs of equipment and its discussion of pleoptics. It reflects the enthusiasms in orthoptics in the 1960s and 1970s.
