Historical Significance: Henry Williams (1821-1895) was President of the Ophthalmological Society of America. He was the first ophthalmologist in the USA to practice ophthalmology exclusively, others combined it with nose and throat. The use of silk sutures for cataract surgery was first described by him in 1867. There is a Henry Williams Professor of Ophthalmology at the eye clinic of the Harvard Medical School university hospital. See also Cat No 39 for more information.
