Historical Significance: Luther Peter (1869-1942) was a Philadelphia ophthalmologist who designed an operation for oculomotor paralysis which involved the transplantation of the tendon of the superior oblique.First ediiton is of of unknown date, the 3rd edition was published in 1941. Peter also published The principles and practice of perimetry 1938; Facts and fallacies concerning squint (cross-eye) 1932; Concerning senile cataract 1933, the latter two being publshed by the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness.
