Historical Significance: Dr J J (Hans) Vos was a scientist at the Insitute for Perception in the Netherlands for most of his career and a noted researcher on glare, hazardous effects of radiation and colour vision. He was an active member of the CIE and through that connection was known to Barry Cole. He spent 3 months as an academic visitor to the University of Melbourne in 1991, when the photograph in this record was taken. This is an important original work on the nature of disability glare and laid the foundations for a CIE technical report on the calculation of disability glare (CIE 146:2002 CIE Equations for Disability Glare)
