Description Of Item: A postally used German postage stamp, 25 x 45 mm, denomination 30 pf, featuring an etching image of Albrecht von Graefe, full length and standing, with his dates of birth and death 1828-1870
Historical Significance: Albrecht von Graefe (1828-1870) was a noted German ophthalmologist. He introduced iridectomy for glaucoma and made contributions to cataract operations, papillodema and optic neuritis among other things. The eponymous "Grafe's sign" is associated with Graves-Basedow disease.
