Description Of Item: Three quarto size pages of typescript being an account of the first AGM of the Australian College of Optometry on April 29 1940 including a transcript of the address given by Ernest Jabara, the foundation First Vice-President of the College, given at that meeting and the annoucement of the appointment of Mr W J Gray as the Secretary of the Colllege.
Historical Significance: The lecture recounts Jabara's view of the current status of the profession and his aspirations for it. He draws the parallel with dentistry and its professional evolution and gives credit to the model set by the USA in developing optometry as a profession of high capability independent of medicine, and by implication that optometry should look to the USA for its model.
