Historical Significance: Montague Ruben DMOS FRCS was lecturer in clinical optics at the Institute of Ophthalmology London at the time of writing the book. TR Tarrant was the medical artist at the Institute. The book is designed to help ophthalmologists in training to grapple with optics. Ruben wrote over 20 books on clinical optics and contact lenses. He was the Founding President in 1978 of the International Society for Contact Lens Research and worked well with optometrists working in contact lenses. Tarrant was very well known for his medical illustrations in ophthalmology and many fundus pictures early 20th C ophthalmology books were painted by him.
