Description Of Item: Newspaper clipping of a photograph in the Sun News-Pictorial newspaper of 14 Nov 1934. The photograph depicts CW Kett and H C Spencer with a genothalmic refractor and an internally illuminated test chart. The clipping is glued to a slip identifying the clipping as being supplied by Australian Press Cuttings and with the date stamp of 14 Nov 1934
Historical Significance: Cyril Henry Woodford Kett FBOA Higher Diploma FSMC (1890 - 1971) was a foundation councillor of the Australian College of Optometry in 1940. Spencer was a sometime Honorary Secretary of the VOA. The Centenary referred to is not the centenary of the VOA but of first white settlement of Victoria. The Henty brothers landed in Portland Bay in 1834. Note the use of a refractor and an internally illuminated test chart in 1934.
