Description Of Item: Printed paper covers, pages 194-240 of Vol 24 (5) 1941 of the Australasian Journal of Optometry, centre stapled, containing on pages 219-236 (interspersed with advertising pages) a full report of the proceedings of the First Annual Meeting of the Australian College of Optometry held on April 22 1941.
Historical Significance: Five pages record the address of the Chairman Ernest Jabara, which the rapporteur records took an hour and five minutes to present and was attended to with flattering interest and greeted with loud and spontaneous outburst of applause. It records the election of HS Latimer, EH Jabara, J Cumberland, CW Kett and R Hogan as councillors and the non-election of W Owens and C Wayman (a contested election!) and that M Challen did not seek re-election. The Chairman's address covers the history of Registration and the foundation of the College in 1940 and the philosophy that Jabara saw as underpinning the optometry course offered by the College. See Cat Nos 956, 957, 970. 971 and 1712 for other holdings of Australian College of Optometry and National Vision Research Institute Annual Reports.
