Description Of Item: Ceremonial academic scarf, 2.6 m long by 110 mm wide, green centre band with yellow edge binding.
Historical Significance: This scarf was proposed by the then College Vice-President, Cyril W Kett (who designed the College coat of arms in 1940). It was to be worn by College fellows in conjunction with a black stuff academic gown at College AGMs and other appropriate ceremonial occasions. It follows the model of the medical colleges. We have also two alternative designs of the same scarf (Labelled Cat No 1195 A). These would have been mock-ups of alternatives for Council's consideration. They are narrow yellow centre band/green edges; narrow yellow centre band very dark green edges. With them is another example of the adopted scarf. Located at Archive room. Unit 3 Drawer 3
