Historical Significance: Robert Augusteyn was the third Director of the National Vision Resarch Institute (NVRI) succeeding Professor A Hughes (and excluding two Acting Directors Professor Barry Cole and Dr (later Professor) Jack Pettigrew). He was a biochemist who researched the biochemistry of the lens of the eye and the chemistry underlying cataract. The NVRI developed the LogMAR system of assesing visual acuity and the LogMAR chart. The NVRI made and sold a range of LogMAR products, various visual acuity charts and near point reading cards and Professor Augustyn was a vigorous promoter of them. A DUPLICATE of this photo is non the north wal slat panel in the Archive room.
