Stamp for the photographer on the back with code numbers for the photographs Historical Significance: The College was founded on December 29 1939 when its Memorandum and Articles of Association were signed by the founding members and its certificate of incorporation was signed on February 5 1940. Its 50th anniversary was celebrated by a gala dinner held in the Melbourne Conference Centre on May 23 1990. See report in the VCO annual report for 1990.The speakers included one graduate from each decade of the 50 years as well as the President. Alan Johnston was the master of ceremonies. Alan Johnston was a research fellow and later a lecturer in the Victorian College of Optometry and the University of Melbourne. He became an Associate Professor and resigned in 2000 to enter private practice. He enjoyed a reputation as an expert in low vision.
