Stamp for the photographer on the back with code numbers for the photographs Historical Significance: The College was founded on December 29 1939 when its Memorandum and Articles of Association were signed by the founding members and its certificate of incorporation was signed on February 5 1940. Its 50th anniversary was celebrated by a gala dinner held in the Melbourne Conference Centre on May 23 1990. See report in the VCO annual report for 1990. The speakers included one graduate from each decade of the 50 years as well as the President David Southgate spoke for the 1980s. David Southgate was active in professional affairs especially in the OAA Vic Div. His most important achievement was his successful political lobbying for the legislative right for optometrists to use therapeutic drugs.
