Description Of Item: Colour photograph 80 x 55 mm of Ken Bowman with a model of a Qantas 747
Historical Significance: Ken Bowman did his masters degree under the supervision of Barry Cole on a project funded by the Department of Civil Aviation studying the usability of coloured aircraft navigation signals as a means of determining the attitude of aircraft in collision avoidance. He was appointed head of the department of optometry at the Queensland Institute of Technology in 1981. He became Dean of the Faculty of Health at the Queensland University of Technology (1990-2010) and then Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He graduated in optometry at the University of Melbourne in 1970 and after practising optometry for several years took up a French Government Scholarship to do research in France under Professor Yves LeGrand. He then completed a masters degree at the University of Melbourne while working as a research fellow under the supervision of Professor Barry Cole.
