Historical Significance: Barry Clark was a physicist with a Dip Mech Eng who did his MSc (1966) and PhD (1971) in the Victorian Colleg of Optometry. He was the fourth person to obtain a PhD in the College. He continued to have a long and intimate connection with the College as a part time teacher in optics in the 1970s and research collaborator. He was a senior scientist with the Commonwealth Department of Defence where he headed the ergonomics group. See Cat No 456 for more details of his career. Dr Vingrys was an airline pilot who lost vision in one eye and had to choose a new career. He completed his optometry course in 1980 did his PhD in optometry at the University of Melbourne under Professor Cole, completing it in 1985. He did a post doc at the Ohio State University and returned to Melbourne as a lecturer in 1987. He was promoted to Professor in 2007. Michael Kalloniatis graduated BScOptom at the University of Melbourne in 1981 and did his Masters degree at Melbourne under the supervision of Associate Professor Alan Johnston. He completed his PhD degree at the University of Houston in 1988 switching from an interest in low vision to neurobiological research. He returned to Melbourne in 1991 as lecturer and left to take the chair in optometry at the University of Auckland in 2002. He subsequently moved to a chair at the University of NSW. Dr Zele did his PhD in optometry at the University of Melbourne under Professor Vingrys and took a post in the Department of Optometry at Queensland University of Technology.
