Marked 'BAUSCH & LOMB OPT CO/ ROCHESTER NY USA/ MAY OPHTHALMOSCOPE/ PATENTED' Black leatherette case with purple velvet lining. Case: 18.5cm x 10.4cm x 6.5cm. Historical Significance: Dr. May was a US ophthalmologist. At age 39, in 1900, he introduced a new double disc ophthalmoscope known as the May ophthalmoscope (For examples see Cat Nos 1185 to 1188, 1338, 1441). He was also the author of a very popular text Manual of Diseases of the Eye.
