Description Of Item: May ophthalmoscope head, cased with other attachments to B&L Stand (focal illuminator & otoscope). Black May ophthalmoscope head with white metal prong to attach to power supply lead on stand (see Cat item No 1192, Instrument Stand). Single Rekoss disc of lenses. Marked 'BAUSCH & LOMB OPT CO/ ROCHESTER NY USA/ MAY OPHTHALMOSCOPE/ PATENTED' Black leatherette case with purple velvet lining. Case: 18.5cm x 10.4cm x 6.5cm.
Historical Significance: Dr. May was a US ophthalmologist. At age 39, in 1900, he introduced a new double disc ophthalmoscope known as the May ophthalmoscope (For examples see Cat Nos 1185 to 1188, 1338, 1441). He was also the author of a very popular text Manual of Diseases of the Eye.
