He was an accomplished opticist and one of the founders and the technological driver of the very successful optical manufacturing company SOLA. He made his fortune when SOLA was sold to Pilkington and with his wife Joyce and his cousin Eulalie Laubman made generous donations to the National Vision Research Institute which form the Schultz, Laubman, Schultz fund. He was made an honorary life member of the College in 1980 and the Schultz foyer was named in his honour. He received an honorary DSc degree from Flinders University in 1986.
