Historical Significance: This is an extensive guide for optometrists and others on the visual requirements of occupations, sports, hobbies, driving etc. Its publication reflects the interest of optometrists in occupational optometry that emerged in the 1950s. See also Hofstetter's book 1956 (Cat No 700) and that of Kuhn 1950 (Cat No 1404) for books on the same subject in the same period. These books reflect the approach to occupational optometry in the 1950s. Interestingly this book has no reference to contact lenses nor to multifocal lenses. Although this is volume I, volume II was never published.
