Description Of Item: Blue cloth cover, 399 pages plus 16 unnumbered pages of photographic portraits of past Presidents of the AOA and other photos on yellow brown paper between pages 210 and 211. Inscription on front fly leaf to 'Jimmy' Wahl from Ernie Kiekenapp and others June 19 1972.
Historical Significance: Ernest K Kiekenapp (pictured) who presented this book to 'Jimmy' Wahl was the Secretary of the AOA from 1922 to 1957. The book includes a small portrait of Kiekenapp and 45 references to him. The author, James R. Gregg, OD, DOS, DOL, BSc, BSc(BusinessAdmin) (1914- 2009), has written several other books on the history of optometry including 'The story of optometry' 1967 (cat No 1141) and 'History of the American Academy of Optometry 1922 - 1986' 1987 (Cat No 1184). He was Professor at the Southern College of Optometry (formerly the Los Angeles College of Optometry) from which he graduated in 1948. He was an academic and senior administrator there until 1984. He was a prolific writer of books and newspaper columns on optometry and 'outdoor life'
