Historical Significance: John Nathan was the first LOSc diplomate of the College in 1944. He was Clinic Director 1947 - 1949, Director of Studies 1950 to 1964 and the third President of the College from 1970 to1978. He taught as a highly respected part time teacher for over 30 years and one of the team of three who started research in the Victorian College of Optometry in 1961. He was awarded an honorary DSc degree by the University of Melbourne in 1994. A celebratory function was held in the College after the conferring, which this photograph records. It taken on the first floor of the College looking toward the Schultz foyer and Amies theatre.
